Yin, Yang and Yoga Nidra Weekend Retreats


In Chinese philosophy, yin and yang describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary and interdependent.

Yang yoga brings strength and heat into the body. Postures are usually dynamic and active. Sun salutations, warrior and balancing poses are all excellent examples of yang yoga. Practising in this way focuses the mind and burns away impurities by firing up the digestive and lymphatic systems. It makes you feel strong, energised and awake! 

Yin yoga is cooling and calming. Postures are held for at least 3 minutes whilst sitting or lying with a passive body. This practice lends itself to introspection and mindfulness as you are invited to slow down, take stock and stay in posture - even when the stretch feels intense. Yin is a wonderful compliment to yang styles of yoga such as Ashtanga and ‘yang’ sports such as running, cycling and weight training.

Yoga Nidra is roughly translated as ‘yogic sleep’. The practice usually takes between 20 - 40 minutes. You lie down supported by bolsters and blankets and are guided through a meditation which takes you to a state of deep but conscious relaxation. Yoga Nidra provides space to explore all the layers of your being, reducing stress and balancing your emotions. Most people find it profoundly relaxing.

Over the course of the weekend, you’ll experience all of these complimentary practices - leaving you recalibrated, rejuvenated and just a little bit more YOU. This is your retreat and your time so please feel free to opt in or out as you see fit.


Food is an important part of the experience whilst on retreat and all meals are included as part of the package. I only work with chefs who specialise in vegetarian/vegan cooking. Every meal you eat will be plant based, fresh, nutritious and utterly delicious!


For retreatees who enjoy massage, I work with an excellent and highly qualified massage therapist who offers 30 min (£30) and 60 min (£60) treatments. All treatments are tailored to your individual needs.


Haberfield Hall is a large gothic mansion surrounded by green space but only a 10 minute drive to Clifton, Bristol with its outstanding Georgian architecture and many shops and restaurants.

Each room in the house is interesting and unique as well as comfortable and cosy. The house has eight bedrooms , six bathrooms, two large living rooms with open fires and a large kitchen/diner.

The yoga studio (which has underfloor heating) is fully equipped with mats, bolsters, blocks etc. It overlooks the garden which has plenty of outdoor seating, beautiful foliage, a field and a heated swimming pool. During the summer months, the pool is almost bath-like and is very pleasant to swim in or relax around.

Whilst on retreat we have exclusive use of the house, swimming pool, garden and yoga studio. All bed linen is provided and you can help yourself to the plentiful large fluffy towels supplied for both indoor and outdoor use.

7.30 - Dinner


7.00-7.20 - Meditation (you may prefer to use this time to have an early morning swim or spend some extra time in bed. Please feel free to nourish yourself as you see fit)

8.00 - Breakfast

10.30 - 12.00 - Yang Yoga

1.00 - Lunch

2.30-3.30 - Option to come with me on a circular walk through local fields and down country lanes. The walk takes approx. 45-60 mins.

4.00 - 5.30 - Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra

7.30 - Dinner


7.00-7.20 - Optional meditation

8.00 - Breakfast

10.30 - 12.00 - Yang and Yin Yoga

1.00 - Lunch

2.30 - free time to take a swim or a walk or you might like to curl up in one of the beautiful sitting rooms with a book - the choice is yours
